Individuals and families who remain on the street, in encampments, or other unsheltered locations are extremely vulnerable, and may be unable to evacuate or move to shelters without assistance. Her presentation, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Super Utilizers, and SOAR: How SSI and Medicaid can Improve Social Determinants of Health focused on the high costs of homelessness and the importance of increasing access to SSI and Medicaid in order to improve housing stability and health outcomes and to reduce overutilization of costly emergency services for individuals with disabling conditions.
