New Regional Administrator for Region VI

SAMHSA Announces New Regional Administrator for Region VI SAMHSA is pleased to announce CDR Karen Hearod, M.S.W., LCSW, as our new Regional Administrator for Region VI. CDR Hearod will begin her work with SAMHSA on March 1, 2017. CDR Karen Hearod is a licensed clinical social worker and a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Prior to accepting her new role as regional administrator, CDR Hearod served as the acting behavioral health consultant for the Oklahoma City Area Indian Health Service (IHS). In this position, CDR Hearod oversaw behavioral health and substance abuse programs across Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas that provided services to 410,000 Native Americans. In addition to providing leadership as chair for the IHS National Zero Suicide Advisory Committee, she served as a member of the National Suicide Crisis Policy Committee working to establish the first IHS national suicide care policy. Applications Being Accepted for New Intensive Technical Assistance Opportunity for PROs, RCOs, and Family-run Organizations SAMHSA and Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS TACS) are pleased to announce the Capacity Building Opportunity, an intensive technical assistance opportunity for peer-run organizations (PROs), recovery community organizations (RCOs), and family-run organizations. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) held a series of webinars for Continuum of Care (CoC) Collaborative Applicants and providers, Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) recipients and sub-recipients, and Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids (HOPWA) grantees to educate participants about the requirements of the Equal Access Rule and Gender Identity Rule and how to ensure that projects operate in compliance with these rules. This webinar also provided "LGBT Language 101" training to aid participants in increasing their knowledge and skills in using appropriate, inclusive language with all clients they serve. Participants were introduced to HUD's Technical Assistance (TA) materials to aid their compliance efforts.
