WEBINAR: How LGBTQ data impacts human services

The needs of people who identify as LGBTQ+ are often left out of decisions on public and social services, because providers do not collect data on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). Collecting data on sexual orientation & gender identity Tuesday, Nov. 12 | 2pm ET / 11am PT  Many studies indicate that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) people experience social problems like homelessness, food insecurity, and access to health care in numbers far above national averages. Often these problems are not addressed because providers do not collect information on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). In this webinar , James Moorhead from Maine's Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Aging and Disability Services will share how to serve the LGBTQ community more effectively by overcoming the many challenges

Grant Announcement The Substance Abuse and HIV Prevention Navigator Program for Racial/Ethnic Minorities Ages 13-24 Application Due Date: Friday, December 27, 2019 SAMHSA is accepting applications for the Substance Abuse and HIV Prevention Navigator Program for Racial/Ethnic Minorities (Prevention Navigator). The purpose of this program is to provide services to those at highest risk for HIV and substance use disorders. The program proposes to use a navigation approach (Community Health Workers, Neighborhood Navigators, and Peer Support Specialists) to expedite services for these populations. The program will provide training and education around the risks of substance misuse, provide education on HIV/AIDS, and provide needed linkages to service provision for individuals with HIV. SAMHSA plans to issue 82 grants of up to $200,000 per year for up to 5 years.  Learn More About This Grant
