Homelessness Declines 2 Percent Since 2013, 11 Percent Since 2007 According to numbers released today by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the number of people experiencing homelessness on a given night has declined by 2 percent since 2013, and by 11 percent since 2007. During the January 2014 Point-in-Time Count, volunteers counted 578,424 people experiencing homelessness. Additional Findings Of the In 578,424 people experiencing homelessness on a given night in January 2014, 69 percent were sheltered, 31 percent were unsheltered. 23 percent of all homeless people counted were children under the age of 18; 10 percent were between the ages of 18 and 24, and 66 percent were 25 years old or older. 63 percent of people
