VA and HUD Announce Twenty-Four Percent Reduction in Veterans’ Homelessness since 2010

WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Housing and Urban Development today announced that a new national report shows a 24 percent reduction in homelessness among Veterans since 2010. The report also showed an 8 percent reduction between January 2012 and January 2013. The decline keeps the Obama administration on track to meet the goal of ending Veterans’ homelessness in 2015.  “We are on the right track in the fight to end homelessness among Veterans.  While this trend is encouraging news, we know that there is more work to do,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. VA Approves $8.8 Million in Grants to Provide Transportation and Renovated Housing for Homeless Veterans

WASHINGTON—The Department of Veterans Affairs has approved $8.8 million in grants to fund 164 projects in 37 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico to rehabilitate currently operational transitional housing projects and acquire vans to facilitate the transportation needs of homeless Veterans.  “President Obama has made eliminating Veterans’ homelessness a national priority,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Secretary Shinseki Announces an Additional $4.9 Million to Help Eliminate Veterans Homelessness

Reporting Requirements Each agency must provide accurate and timely data entry, as per their grant agreement. HUD & VA ANNOUNCE MORE VOUCHERS TO HELP HOMELESS VETS GET INTO PERMANENT HOMES

August 21, 2013 HUD-VASH vouchers to build on 17 percent decline in veteran homelessness since 2009 WASHINGTON – The Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Veterans Affairs today announced the second round of HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) funding to local public housing agencies across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.  The $7.8 million will provide housing and clinical services for 1,120 currently homeless veterans.  In May of this year, the two agencies announced $60 million in HUD-VASH vouchers.   See state/local distribution of the assistance announced today. May 31, 2013   in  Latest News  by  admin At our recent Spring Conference in Seattle, NHSDC renewed its commitment to being a forum for exploring and building consensus among community based management information systems administrators.  Of particular relevance at this conference was the release of draft regulation from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Special Needs Assistance Program Office on the new definition of chronic homelessness and the Data Standards for Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS).  NHSDC has, and continues to be one of the few places that system owners and operators can gather to speak directly with each other.  We make a special effort to include a variety of stakeholders, from software providers, to service recipients; from federal officials to local elected representatives.
