Environmental Review Training by Non-HUD Providers

With the pending implementation of the new HUD Environmental Review Online System (HEROS), it is especially important to note that training on the system will be incorporated into HUD-sponsored training as well as HUD’s Office of Environment and Energy’s website.
HUD recommends that Responsible Entity staff involved in environmental reviews attend regular training on HUD environmental reviews that is provided by HUD’s field environmental officers or sponsored by HUD. Environmental review training is offered by HUD in all of the regions annually free of charge. HUD has not provided approved training content on environmental reviews or on HEROS to technical assistance providers with the exception of training sponsored by HUD’s Office of Native American Programs. Therefore, the quality or accuracy of the training provided by privately operating entities cannot be guaranteed.
To find out when environmental training is available in each region, contact the local HUD field environmental officer. For those who cannot attend training, the Environmental Review resource pages provide guidance, tools, and webinars on complying with environmental laws and authorities when conducting the environmental review.
