Suicide Safe – New Suicide Prevention App
Just in time for holiday mobile app and tablet shopping, SAMHSA is preparing to release a new, free mobile app, called Suicide Safe, that will encourage professional development in the New Year.
Suicide Safe helps providers integrate suicide prevention strategies into their practice and reduce suicide risk among their patients.
Suicide Safe can help primary care providers gain confidence in assisting patients who present with suicidal ideation, communicate effectively with patients and their families, determine appropriate next steps, and make referrals to treatment and community resources. These are all critical components in saving lives. The app is based on SAMHSA's Suicide Assessment Five-Step Evaluation and Triage (SAFE-T) card and includes clinical education and support resources for providers.
Suicide Safe helps providers use the SAMHSA Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator, explore suicide prevention resources, study interactive sample cases, access information and patient education materials, and browse conversation starters.
SAMHSA's free Suicide Safe app will be available in January 2015 for iOS® and Android™ mobile devices.
