RE: [MARHMIS] anonymous clients on HMIS

What is the procedure if a client pro-actively requests their information not be input into a homeless management data collection system?

Thank you.

We do the same as Cinthia – we ask permission to share, not to enter. J

Good afternoon Deborah,

We do not ask our consumers if their information can be entered in a HMIS database, we ask if it's ok to share their information with other partner agencies.  If the consumer say no I do not want to share, their information is entered however it will be flagged as no sharing.  With the exception if they received any financial assistance then the information will be shared in order to prevent double dipping. I hope this helps. Our client consent forms can be found on our website https://hmis.njhmfaserv.org

What procedure are you using to record clients refusing to have their data in your HMIS?  Is the procedure continuum wide or specific and different for each agency?  What items should we be thinking about when developing policies for this situation?

Thank you for your feedback.  Be well. - Deb
