SAMHSA has awarded up to $6 million in funding over the next 5 years to support the International President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief Addiction Technology Transfer Centers (INT PEPFAR-ATTC) programs operating in Vietnam, South Africa, and Ukraine. The purpose of this program is to establish INT PEPFAR-ATTC programs that increase the capacity, skills, and abilities of HIV/AIDS programs. Governmental agencies and the PEPFAR programs will address problematic substance use—including opioid-related disorders—and mental disorders to impact the goals of the national HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs. |

A new short report indicates the reasons for adult prescription drug misuse based on data from the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The report discusses the most common reasons among adults for misuse of prescription pain relievers, prescription tranquilizers, prescription stimulants, and prescription sedatives. |

SAMHSA released the fourth edition of its Behavioral Health Barometer state reports that provide a powerful overview of behavioral health in each state and the District of Columbia. Each report includes data about key behavioral health issues such as the prevalence of substance use, serious thoughts of suicide, serious mental illness, and related treatment, as well as their comparisons with the corresponding national annual averages. |

Part Two: There Is Hope: Treatment, Recovery, and Prevention
Connecting people to treatment and recovery support has been shown to be effective and can save lives. During part two of this series, experts from SAMHSA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will review early intervention and treatment options, and they will discuss the essential role that the community plays in recovery support and prevention. They will also discuss strategies for getting ahead of the problem, the impact of adverse childhood experiences on the development of a substance use disorder, and how upstream preventative action can restore hope and lead to a brighter and healthier future for generations to come. The webinar will close with a Q&A session and a review of resources. |

The event honors people in recovery and their family members who are community champions seeking to improve the lives of people with mental illnesses and addictions. This year's theme, Honoring Those Who Serve: Hope, Resilience, and Recovery, will spotlight efforts that provide support to past and present military service members and their families. The Voice Awards will be hosted by celebrity chef Robert Irvine, who has been a strong supporter of issues affecting military personnel and their families through the Robert Irvine Foundation. The Voice Awards also recognize television and film productions that educate the public about behavioral health. |
