Join us this fall to make ending homelessness a priority in Congress |

Congress has until December 8th to pass a budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018, or face a government shutdown. It is essential for the fight to end homelessness that Congress invests in proven, evidence-based solutions in this budget. By increasing funding to the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants to $2.6 billion, 40,000 more people can be housed nationally.
The National Alliance to End Homelessness is launching an advocacy campaign this fall to ensure Congress makes ending homelessness a priority in any deal that is made. We have a lot planned, but we need your help to execute it. Over the course of the next six weeks, we will be in contact with you regularly with opportunities to email, call, petition, and host your Members of Congress throughout the fall. Send Congress a message that federal funding is essential to ending homelessness nationally, and in your community.
We want you to be ready, and will be here to help every step of the way. We’ll be making tools available to help you contact your Members of Congress and organize your community. We would also like to introduce the newest member of our Advocacy Team—our National Field Organizer, Rashida Latef—who will be helping to organize Congressional visits during the recess, community-wide letters to Congress, and will be a valuable resource for communities to contact throughout the campaign. |

Here is what you can help us with |
|
|
|
- Starting today – E-mail your Members of Congress. We want to get it in Congress’s mind now how important federal funding is to ending homelessness. The Alliance has made it easy to reach out to your Senators and Representative. Just use our tools here to write your Member of Congress.
- On November 15th – Call your Members of Congress. Gather your friends, colleagues, and neighbors, and join advocates from across the country to call Congress on November 15th. We will be following up with additional tools and resources to help you.
- Over the Thanksgiving Recess – Host your Members of Congress. There is a recess during the week of Thanksgiving, and Members are likely to be home in your districts. If your organization is planning an event around Thanksgiving, it could be a perfect opportunity to show your Members how important your work is to the community. If you have an event planned and would like to turn it into a site visit, contact Rashida at rlatef@naeh.org today.
- By December 8th – Submit a Community-wide letter to Congress. Gather the stakeholders in your community (elected officials, business leaders, religious leaders, and partners) to sign on to a community-wide letter to submit to Congress before the December 8th deadline for them to take action. We have letters that can help you. If you would like to take the lead in organizing sign-on’s for your community, contact Rashida at rlatef@naeh.org today.
Stay in touch – Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to stay up to date on the latest developments throughout our campaign. Together, we can end homelessness.
