A Life Like Any Other

For aging caregivers of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, preparing for their loved-one's future is a constant focus and worry. In a video conversation, Catalina Sanchez, a grandmother and caregiver, addresses the concerns and hopes she has for her grandson, John. She has spent many sleepless nights wondering who would look after him when she is gone. How he would make it on his own? As Catalina learns more about supportive housing, she is comforted by the stability and services it offers, and realizes it will permit John to live independently and thrive. Hear Catalania and John tell their stories in our new video created with the support of the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Stamp of Approval

For Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) like CSH, the Aeris rating is the gold standard for transparency and accountability to investors, grant makers, governments, and other stakeholders. With major investors using Aeris Rating Reports and data to support their investment sourcing, due diligence, and monitoring, Aeris-rated and reporting institutions benefit from strengthened and streamlined investor confidence and commitments. Aeris has once again awarded CSH one of its highest ratings, a 4-star AA Policy Plus, and we are unwavering in our pledge to ensure we meet these high standards for our investors and the people we serve every, single day.

Teams Announced for Indiana Institute

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and CSH announced the six teams that will be participating in the 2019 Indiana Supportive Housing Institute. Each team will establish a plan to create supportive housing to serve either homeless veterans or individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. "Now in its 10th year, the Institute continues to be a great opportunity for organizations to develop detailed, individualized supportive housing plans," said Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, who serves as IHCDA's board chair. Read more about the 2019 Institute teams by clicking here

Temenos Supportive Housing in Houston

Earlier this month, Temenos CDC celebrated the grand opening of Temenos III, fifteen units of supportive housing uniquely designed to serve those who are chronically homeless and experiencing chronic inebriation in Midtown Houston, Texas. CSH funds were used for permanent financing to refurbish a community center into this single-room-occupancy residence. It will be the first project of its kind in Houston, embracing the integrated care model of service delivery, utilizing the services of SEARCH to provide intense case management, and partnering with Houston's Healthcare for the Homeless to ensure access to healthcare and dental services.

New York Justice Reform

For managers and developers of housing in New York State, our next installment of the "Are You Ready" webinar series will take place on January 31 from 10-11:30 a.m. ET. The webinar, Serving a Criminal Justice-Involved Population in Supportive Housing, is free and registration can be accessed by clicking here. In recent years, New York has advanced criminal justice reform, yet the question of housing for households with histories of justice-involvement remains insufficiently addressed. This webinar will bring together leaders from local government, development organizations and non-profits to discuss current efforts and proven practices for developing supportive housing and providing effective services to a criminal justice-involved population.

Supportive Housing and Medicaid Series

Have you ever attended a webinar about Medicaid and Supportive Housing and gotten a little lost in the details? Then this is the webinar series for you! Housing + Substance Use Recovery

CSH is offering a free series aimed at bringing together supportive housing and homeless services providers and other systems to work more effectively with people who use substances, including opioids. The kick-off webinar for the series will be held on February 20, 1:30pm ET, and will cover the basics. You can register for the webinar -- Addiction Services 101:  Recovery Support Services, Medication Assisted Treatment or MAT, and Addiction Treatment -- by clicking here. This free webinar will consider ways to create links between systems, how to encourage new resources that are targeted to the most vulnerable in your community, and information needed to create partnerships to increase supportive housing capacity. The webinar will examine the differences between Medicaid expansion and non-expansion states for these topics.

Intro to Supportive Housing Financing

Supportive housing budgets are a critical part of any project planning cycle and funding submission. Our new course, Introduction to Supportive Housing Budgeting & Financing, will teach participants the key considerations when it comes to creating a comprehensive and sustainable supportive housing project budget. After taking this course, participants will have the tools and knowledge to assemble a budget and seek supportive housing funding. This course is perfect for developers and/or project managers new to supportive housing.
