Health Care Benefits for Older Adults

The public healthcare coverage, services and benefits discussed in a new brief from CSH can make the difference between a life in the community in housing or bouncing between homelessness and various institutions. A variety of services may be available in your community to assist older adults, but if the potential recipient does not have the public healthcare coverage (Medicare or Medicaid or both) that covers these services, the individual is paying high costs out of pocket or cannot access the care at all. 2019 FUP NOFA Out - Join our Webinar

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has released its 2019 Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) application for the Family Unification Program (FUP)​. FUP is a housing resource for integrated housing and services, including supportive housing, for families involved in child welfare systems and is an important part of providing assistance to many youth as well. Join CSH and the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities (CLPHA) for a free webinar filled with practical advice as we provide an extensive overview of HUD's NOFA issuance for FUP. Building Opportunities in Chicago

Housing Opportunities for Women (HOW) recently hosted Building Opportunities, a panel discussion with four experts in conversation about what works and what is next in affordable housing development. The panel, including CSH Managing Director Katrina Van Valkenburgh, offered attendees unique insights into the ways corporate, nonprofit, and government entities are working together to solve the current housing affordability crisis.

SAMHSA Grants to Benefit Homeless Individuals

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2020 Grants for the Benefit of Homeless Individuals (Short Title: GBHI). The purpose of this program is to support the development and/or expansion of local implementation of a community infrastructure that integrates substance use disorder treatment, housing services and other critical services for individuals (including youth) and families experiencing homelessness. Housing is Health Care Webinar

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council, CSH, and the National Center for Health in Public Housing are hosting Housing is Health Care: Prevalence and Considerations across the Housing Spectrum, a free webinar on November 14, 2019 at 12:00pm ET. The webinar will highlight the importance of housing as a social determinant of health by describing the health care needs and challenges of individuals experiencing homelessness, living in supportive housing, or are public housing residents.

National Healthy Aging Academy

With support from the AARP Foundation, CSH is pleased to announce its next Healthy Aging Academy. Building on several successful local academies on healthy aging, this Academy takes learning and action to the next level by increasing the capacity of supportive, affordable housing and human services providers nationwide to help them meet the unique needs of elderly tenants. This course is ideal for any person working with older adults in housing.

Effectively Managing Housing with Services
