Traveling Veteran Coordinator – Traveling for
the Winter?

If you are enrolled in health care with VA, you will receive the same care while traveling as you would at home. A Traveling Veteran Coordinator will help coordinate with the alternate facility, but you need to tell your care team about your plans before you travel.

VA launches 'Solid Start' to proactively contact Veterans during first-year of transition

Solid Start
Veterans in their first year of military to civilian transition will learn about VA programs and benefits through the new Solid Start program.
VA will reach out to new Veterans three times during the first year of their transition, the initial contact will come in the first 90 days after separation.

Fisher House serves as home away from home for Veterans, military families

FisherHouse
A Fisher House is "a home away from home" for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. These homes offer free, temporary lodging to military and Veterans' families, allowing them to be close to their loved one during a medical crisis. Having diabetes is not an easy task. There is a lot of self-management required after being diagnosed with diabetes. Mary Julius, Cleveland VA Medical Center noted how "25% of Veterans receiving VA care have been diagnosed with diabetes" in this week's Borne the Battle episode. She also emphasized the importance of educating Veterans and their families on how to self-manage their diabetes.
