HUD's Data Submission Timeline for CoCs: Updates and Reminders
HUD’s Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs (SNAPS) wants to thank you for your tremendous efforts to keep those experiencing homelessness safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are providing you with a few updates and reminders on data collection and reporting requirements.
Updates to the HMIS Data Standards in Response to COVID-19
We have received many inquiries about whether HUD will require additional HMIS data elements in response to COVID-19. We are working with our federal partners to determine if any changes are needed. At this time it appears some minimal changes will be added to the project descriptor data elements but no changes to end user data collection.
ESG-CV CAPER Reporting Requirements
We are developing the Emergency Solutions Grants – CARES Act (ESG-CV) reporting requirements and anticipate releasing information about what will be collected in the near future.
Data Submission Deadlines
As a reminder, the 2020 Housing Inventory Count (HIC) and Point-in-Time (PIT) Count data submission deadline was extended to June 30, 2020. HUD’s Homelessness Data Exchange (HDX) 1.0 is open for Continuums of Care (CoCs) that want to submit their data. Some CoCs have expressed an interest in submitting their data earlier and receiving feedback about issues identified. We will review and provide feedback to CoCs on submissions when there is a critical mass. CoCs should not feel pressured to respond to those requests until after June 30, 2020.
Also, the deadline for implementing and data collection for the Coordinated Entry data elements has been moved to October 1, 2020, with the first reports with this data due on October 1, 2021. However, HUD encourages CoCs to continue to focus on full implementation of the coordinated entry data collection as issues with COVID-19 response calm down.

Note: Please submit your questions early. Due to high volumes near the deadline, HUD may not be able to respond until after the deadline.
